Race Number 1 - The Chilly One at Grafham Water

'I'm sure it will be warmer when we get there!' This bank holiday weekend saw the first of Warwick's races as he attempts to qualify for a spot on the Team GB Age-Group Squad After making the 100 mile trip up to Cambridgeshire excitement was high and so were the nerves for what lay ahead. As is becoming customary for Warwick's races the weather the few days before had been "varied" which meant that as we tried to prepare for the race every eventuality had to be considered. When driving the route the day before it was clear that, although quick, given the route would be effected by any degree of wind pacing would be the key to a well executed race.  The night before a race is always a strange one, everyone else would get an early night; make sure that they are well rested and relaxed for the following day. Warwick however does things a different way, in a strange fashion a shut down happens in his mind. A different mindset takes over, o

Hills, Drills and Racing Thrills

As you will have seen in our last blog post, the last couple of weeks have been extremely busy with new jobs, routines and locations to adjust to. Now 2 weeks into our new life on the south coast, Warwick has begun to find his feet within the new Triathlon and running clubs. Although he is now more settled, the adaptation to the new training location hasn't been easy; Essex by its nature is flat, seriously flat, unless you repeatedly go up and down the same 2km hill at a interesting but not impossible 9% incline, there really isn't much to train with. Our new location, however, is a beautiful beast of an entirely different nature, full of technical descents through tight country lanes and climbs that last for miles - the perfect location to improve on those ascent skills. This change hasn't been easy, for running long hills hasn’t always been a strength Warwick could rely on but with new training groups these skills are being slowly drilled in and will soon bec

A busy month in review

So it's been a while hasn't it Tri couplets? It's been a very up and down month with the training pressures for Warwick increasing and real life accelerating away with both of us, making it difficult to step back and review what's really been happening.  If you can cast your minds back a few weeks, as per the usual routine it was time Warwick to slip into race mode and compete in the local triathlon club league. As they still believe it to be "winter" they're currently only running an Aquathlon, a 400 metre swim followed by a quick 5km around the local park. Short and fast with no need to consider food or hydration it’s a pure test of speed. With a swim time of 5:57 and a run of 18:43 timing are perfectly where Warwick has to be sat at the moment. Although the end result was exactly what we were aiming for, as soon as the word 'go' was shouted, the pacing strategy agreed on was thrown out and it became a game for Warwick to chase down the per

An Exciting Announcement!

Today is a very exciting day for Warwick as it has been announced that he is one of three very lucky recipients of the David Randall Foundation’s Inspirational Awards for 2019. The David Randall Foundation, set up in honour of talented sportsman and musician David Randall, provides Good Days for people with life limiting illnesses and scholarships to those who show dedication in either music or sport. Warwick is so grateful to have been awarded one of the Inspirational Awards for 2019 and would like to thank the trustees of the charity for choosing to support him in chasing his triathlon dreams this year.  We will be sharing Warwick’s progress on this blog for the Charity’s supporters to keep updated on how their fundraising is making a difference. If you would like to support the David Randall Foundation in their work to offer such amazing opportunities for other young people as well as providing more Good Days for those with life limiting illnesses, please visit
