A busy month in review

So it's been a while hasn't it Tri couplets? It's been a very up and down month with the training pressures for Warwick increasing and real life accelerating away with both of us, making it difficult to step back and review what's really been happening.

If you can cast your minds back a few weeks, as per the usual routine it was time Warwick to slip into race mode and compete in the local triathlon club league. As they still believe it to be "winter" they're currently only running an Aquathlon, a 400 metre swim followed by a quick 5km around the local park. Short and fast with no need to consider food or hydration it’s a pure test of speed. With a swim time of 5:57 and a run of 18:43 timing are perfectly where Warwick has to be sat at the moment. Although the end result was exactly what we were aiming for, as soon as the word 'go' was shouted, the pacing strategy agreed on was thrown out and it became a game for Warwick to chase down the person who started in front of him. This is something we're working on, his pure addiction to catching the person ahead isn't always required but removing the instinct is going to take time. As the results came it became clear that the chasing efforts had done their job with Warwick finishing almost two minutes before the closest athlete. It's reassuring to know that the hard work put in over the winter has been worth it and he's currently sitting where he should be.

Away from training and back in the real world of non triathlon there has been a big development for both Warwick & Jodie finally after many months of living 70 miles apart from each other this weekend Warwick has finally made the move down to South Coast permanently. Although he'll still be racing representing Blackwater the fair majority of the Jodie and Warwick's adventures will be conducted near the seaside!

Quick selfie whilst getting 'meowed' at by the cat we met.

About Us Welcome to our new blog! We are based in the South of England and participate in a range of triathlons from Super-Sprint to Olympic distance across the UK. Warwick is currently training hard for a number of Olympic and Sprint distance triathlons in the coming season, aiming to improve on the successes of last year, whilst Jodie is taking a much more relaxed approach, with no races in the calendar apart from a couple of charity 10ks. We hope that this blog will give you an insight into our training (which Jodie will hopefully start soon!) and give some reports and reviews of the races that we participate in. Please let us know if there is anything you'd like to see on this blog and we will do our best. We are by no means experts, picking up advice from a range of coaches and other triathletes we've been lucky enough to train and race with as well as from the, sometimes challenging, lessons we've learnt along the way! We hope you enjoy our blog. Ke...

Hills, Drills and Racing Thrills

As you will have seen in our last blog post, the last couple of weeks have been extremely busy with new jobs, routines and locations to adjust to. Now 2 weeks into our new life on the south coast, Warwick has begun to find his feet within the new Triathlon and running clubs. Although he is now more settled, the adaptation to the new training location hasn't been easy; Essex by its nature is flat, seriously flat, unless you repeatedly go up and down the same 2km hill at a interesting but not impossible 9% incline, there really isn't much to train with. Our new location, however, is a beautiful beast of an entirely different nature, full of technical descents through tight country lanes and climbs that last for miles - the perfect location to improve on those ascent skills. This change hasn't been easy, for running long hills hasn’t always been a strength Warwick could rely on but with new training groups these skills are being slowly drilled in and will soon bec...

Race Number 1 - The Chilly One at Grafham Water

'I'm sure it will be warmer when we get there!' This bank holiday weekend saw the first of Warwick's races as he attempts to qualify for a spot on the Team GB Age-Group Squad After making the 100 mile trip up to Cambridgeshire excitement was high and so were the nerves for what lay ahead. As is becoming customary for Warwick's races the weather the few days before had been "varied" which meant that as we tried to prepare for the race every eventuality had to be considered. When driving the route the day before it was clear that, although quick, given the route would be effected by any degree of wind pacing would be the key to a well executed race.  The night before a race is always a strange one, everyone else would get an early night; make sure that they are well rested and relaxed for the following day. Warwick however does things a different way, in a strange fashion a shut down happens in his mind. A different mindset takes over, o...
