A busy month in review

So it's been a while hasn't it Tri couplets? It's been a very up and down month with the training pressures for Warwick increasing and real life accelerating away with both of us, making it difficult to step back and review what's really been happening.

If you can cast your minds back a few weeks, as per the usual routine it was time Warwick to slip into race mode and compete in the local triathlon club league. As they still believe it to be "winter" they're currently only running an Aquathlon, a 400 metre swim followed by a quick 5km around the local park. Short and fast with no need to consider food or hydration it’s a pure test of speed. With a swim time of 5:57 and a run of 18:43 timing are perfectly where Warwick has to be sat at the moment. Although the end result was exactly what we were aiming for, as soon as the word 'go' was shouted, the pacing strategy agreed on was thrown out and it became a game for Warwick to chase down the person who started in front of him. This is something we're working on, his pure addiction to catching the person ahead isn't always required but removing the instinct is going to take time. As the results came it became clear that the chasing efforts had done their job with Warwick finishing almost two minutes before the closest athlete. It's reassuring to know that the hard work put in over the winter has been worth it and he's currently sitting where he should be.

Away from training and back in the real world of non triathlon there has been a big development for both Warwick & Jodie finally after many months of living 70 miles apart from each other this weekend Warwick has finally made the move down to South Coast permanently. Although he'll still be racing representing Blackwater the fair majority of the Jodie and Warwick's adventures will be conducted near the seaside!

Quick selfie whilst getting 'meowed' at by the cat we met.

Race Number 1 - The Chilly One at Grafham Water

'I'm sure it will be warmer when we get there!' This bank holiday weekend saw the first of Warwick's races as he attempts to qualify for a spot on the Team GB Age-Group Squad After making the 100 mile trip up to Cambridgeshire excitement was high and so were the nerves for what lay ahead. As is becoming customary for Warwick's races the weather the few days before had been "varied" which meant that as we tried to prepare for the race every eventuality had to be considered. When driving the route the day before it was clear that, although quick, given the route would be effected by any degree of wind pacing would be the key to a well executed race.  The night before a race is always a strange one, everyone else would get an early night; make sure that they are well rested and relaxed for the following day. Warwick however does things a different way, in a strange fashion a shut down happens in his mind. A different mindset takes over, o...
About Us Welcome to our new blog! We are based in the South of England and participate in a range of triathlons from Super-Sprint to Olympic distance across the UK. Warwick is currently training hard for a number of Olympic and Sprint distance triathlons in the coming season, aiming to improve on the successes of last year, whilst Jodie is taking a much more relaxed approach, with no races in the calendar apart from a couple of charity 10ks. We hope that this blog will give you an insight into our training (which Jodie will hopefully start soon!) and give some reports and reviews of the races that we participate in. Please let us know if there is anything you'd like to see on this blog and we will do our best. We are by no means experts, picking up advice from a range of coaches and other triathletes we've been lucky enough to train and race with as well as from the, sometimes challenging, lessons we've learnt along the way! We hope you enjoy our blog. Ke...

Sunday Funday

Rough Terrain Run in Aid of St Michael’s Hospice 10-02-2019 This Sunday we attended the Rough Terrain Run in aid of St Michael’s Hospice, a Sussex based charity providing palliative care and bereavement support across Hastings and Rother. Warwick didn’t run this one through fear of injuring himself before the triathlon season, so I took on the mud with my mum who began running last summer. Warwick did, however, provide support by keeping my post-run clothes warm, taking photos and standing around in the cold whilst we were out having fun – at least he had a good laugh watching me attempt the warm-up! The event began with a motivational warm-up involving star jumps, squats, and touching various body parts to the muddy ground to ensure we were ready to tackle the next 5km. Once the warm-up was complete, the countdown began and we were off up the first slippery slope. Signs of mud beginning to show!   The run took us through fields and woodland with a number of obs...
