Valentines Day Went...Swimmingly ♡

As a long distance couple this week was of course going to be a difficult one to navigate but come Valentine’s Day evening Warwick and Jodie were found in familiar locations. Jodie tucked up at home with a book whilst Warwick swam repeatedly up and down the same 25m in a pool over 70 miles away from her.

This was the agreed arrangement but it still reminded us that it’s not easy balancing a relationship, full time jobs and training; there’ll always be difficulties. But, come Friday evening we were both booked in for sports massages with the lovely Sarah at Galleywood Massage https://www.facebook.com/galleywoodmassage/ with Warwick accidentally falling asleep half way through (a side effect of his constant desire for improvement).

Saturday rolled around and with it a very much welcomed rest day, a brief trip into town to replace yet another pair of swimmers then waiting for a very rare but welcome meal out that evening. We’re not high society diners and when it comes to our favourite restaurant, quantity is looked upon favourably. Next door to Warwicks local pool is an amazing Chinese buffet which is where we were to treat ourselves for being good all week and indulge in some well needed comfort food and time together away from the mounting pressure of our lives at the moment.

The next morning in a state of pleasure from the previous night's buffet, we realised that some exercise, but nothing of racing level, was needed to fight off the food babies we appeared to be transporting. There’s one remedy for this, riding bikes in the lovely outdoors away from wattbike studios and their painful training plans, enjoying the chase around the lanes and the wind in our hair....

Right up to the moment that Jodie’s bike decided to puncture and ruin the fun. I think she enjoyed the 40 minutes spent in the Church car park waiting for a lift!

Jodie appears to have two heads...!

All in all, a highly relaxing weekend spent sleeping, relaxing and generally enjoying ourselves without the pressure of training. It’s a shame that the 5:30am starts begin again tomorrow.

As a teaser for next week - a very exciting announcement is coming on the 23rd so keep your eyes peeled and we'll let you all know once its announced!

Hope you've all had a great weekend and have a fabulous week.

Keep Tri-ing,

Warwick & Jodie 🙂

About Us Welcome to our new blog! We are based in the South of England and participate in a range of triathlons from Super-Sprint to Olympic distance across the UK. Warwick is currently training hard for a number of Olympic and Sprint distance triathlons in the coming season, aiming to improve on the successes of last year, whilst Jodie is taking a much more relaxed approach, with no races in the calendar apart from a couple of charity 10ks. We hope that this blog will give you an insight into our training (which Jodie will hopefully start soon!) and give some reports and reviews of the races that we participate in. Please let us know if there is anything you'd like to see on this blog and we will do our best. We are by no means experts, picking up advice from a range of coaches and other triathletes we've been lucky enough to train and race with as well as from the, sometimes challenging, lessons we've learnt along the way! We hope you enjoy our blog. Ke...

Hills, Drills and Racing Thrills

As you will have seen in our last blog post, the last couple of weeks have been extremely busy with new jobs, routines and locations to adjust to. Now 2 weeks into our new life on the south coast, Warwick has begun to find his feet within the new Triathlon and running clubs. Although he is now more settled, the adaptation to the new training location hasn't been easy; Essex by its nature is flat, seriously flat, unless you repeatedly go up and down the same 2km hill at a interesting but not impossible 9% incline, there really isn't much to train with. Our new location, however, is a beautiful beast of an entirely different nature, full of technical descents through tight country lanes and climbs that last for miles - the perfect location to improve on those ascent skills. This change hasn't been easy, for running long hills hasn’t always been a strength Warwick could rely on but with new training groups these skills are being slowly drilled in and will soon bec...

Race Number 1 - The Chilly One at Grafham Water

'I'm sure it will be warmer when we get there!' This bank holiday weekend saw the first of Warwick's races as he attempts to qualify for a spot on the Team GB Age-Group Squad After making the 100 mile trip up to Cambridgeshire excitement was high and so were the nerves for what lay ahead. As is becoming customary for Warwick's races the weather the few days before had been "varied" which meant that as we tried to prepare for the race every eventuality had to be considered. When driving the route the day before it was clear that, although quick, given the route would be effected by any degree of wind pacing would be the key to a well executed race.  The night before a race is always a strange one, everyone else would get an early night; make sure that they are well rested and relaxed for the following day. Warwick however does things a different way, in a strange fashion a shut down happens in his mind. A different mindset takes over, o...
